What’s Happening:

Joe Manchin is the one Democrat in Washington that appears to be fighting for sanity.

Until Congress can be flipped in 2022, Manchin might be the only hope for protecting our values and Constitution.

He has fought for bipartisan solutions, given the Senate’s 50/50. So far, his party has ignored him, forcing through their agenda.

Some Republicans worry that eventually, Manchin will break under leftist pressure. (After all, he voted twice to convict Trump during the impeachment trials.)

But, Manchin just ended Biden’s honeymoon for good.

From Fox News:

Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., who many consider the second-most-powerful politician in the U.S., responded emphatically on Monday when asked if he would ever wavier in his support of the procedural tool known as the filibuster.

“Never!” he told Fox News’ Jason Donner. “Jesus Christ, what don’t you understand about never?”

Joe Manchin emphatically reassured the country that he will “never” change his mind on the filibuster.

The filibuster rule is the only thing preventing Democrats from running away with their radical agenda. It is a rule that provides the minority party a voice in the Senate—by preventing votes on controversial bills.

Democrats wanted the filibuster gone after the 2020 Election—and people like Chuck Schumer fought to make it happen.

But Manchin and one other Democrat, Arizona’s Sinema, vowed to protect the rule. That ensured, for the time being, that Republicans can filibuster to prevent bills from being passed (requiring 60 votes to overrule the filibuster).

It’s possible, though, that Democrats could eventually vote to get rid of the rule. They might pressure Manchin or others to flip their decisions.

Manchin’s strong response suggests otherwise. Not that it would convince skeptics. He might not be able to say anything to convince everyone.

But when a Democrat is willing to say “never,” he just might mean never.

Do you believe Joe Manchin when he says he’ll never vote to kill the filibuster?

Key Takeaways:

  • Joe Manchin once again vowed to support the filibuster rule.
  • He said he would “never” vote to eliminate it from the Senate.
  • The filibuster protects the minority party from runaway legislation.
