Attorney General Ken Paxton today issued civil investigative demands (CIDs) to Google, Facebook, Twitter, Amazon Web Services, and Apple, asking the companies for their policies and practices regarding content moderation and, more specifically, for information related to Parler, a social media application recently terminated or blocked by Google, Amazon, and Apple.

The attorney general of Texas launched a probe into the five biggest tech companies in America. His goal is to get to the bottom of their “policies and practices” involving how they censor content. And why they shut down social site Parler.

For years, conservatives have felt the lash of social media censorship. They have been “shadow banned,” blocked, silenced, or outright shut down.

Leaders, including President Trump, have called on the government to do something about it. But it seems Congress is more concerned with impeaching a leaving president, than addressing a made issue.

It appears Ken Paxton is concerned with the amount of power these social networks wield. His investigation is focused on the policies that allow these sites to control what you see.

Many have accused these companies of applying inconsistent policies for users. Often conservatives are shut down over vague rules and standards. Meanwhile, liberal users can post almost anything and face zero consequences.

This investigation might go a long way in revealing just what social media sites are doing. You better believe they’ll put up a fight.
