Sen. Hawley Just Lowered The Boom On Liberals – He Introduces New Bill Called The “Bust Up Big Tech Act”

For years, Republican and Conservative lawmakers have pushed back against the power of Big Tech corporations. Companies like Google, Amazon and others have often been in the right-wing crosshairs.

Many believe Big Tech power needs to be curbed, that they’ve simply become too overwhelmingly influential. And Republicans claim this actually has a negative impact on the country.

This includes Sen. Josh Hawley, who will introduce a new bill designed to “bust up” the liberal Big Tech.

Hawley is actually pushing two bills that go after the biggest companies on the planet:

The first, introduced last week, would ban mergers of companies that are worth over $100 billion. This would theoretically stop massive corporations from merging and becoming even more powerful.

This week, Hawley delivers the “Bust Up Big Tech Act,” which is more focused.

And if it goes through, it’s going to cause a serious pain to mega online retailers like Amazon. But as far as many GOP members are concerned, enough is enough.

Sen. Josh Hawley on Monday will introduce a bill to ‘bust up’ Big Tech, which will target massive companies like Google and Amazon, including by banning them from simultaneously running an online marketplace and selling goods on that marketplace.

Hawley’s new, more focused bill would also ban companies that own online marketplaces or search engines from owning online hosting services…

Hawley contends that these giant corporations have been “coddled” by D.C. politicos for too long.

This has allowed them to acquire gigantic amounts of power, and this in turn lets the corporations push their own political agenda on American consumers.

Said Hawley:

Woke Big Tech companies like Google and Amazon have been coddled by Washington politicians for years.

This treatment has allowed them to amass colossal amounts of power that they use to censor political opinions that they don’t agree with and shut out competitors who offer consumers an alternative to the status quo.

It’s past time to bust up Big Tech companies, restore competition, and give power back to the American consumers.

The bill really puts the screws on Amazon, too.

It would ban Amazon from selling their own products on Amazon Marketplace, where its competitors do plenty of business. The bill would also stop Amazon from owning vast amounts of cloud computing services.

Lastly, this legislation gives the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) the authority to monitor compliance with the law, and it would allow citizens to sue tech companies.

The latter point is huge for many consumers.

Giving them the right to sue a major corporation like Amazon or Google because they might’ve violated the law is a huge deal. In fact, many consumers have lobbied for this for years.

However, the report says it’s “unlikely” that Hawley’s bill will pass without changes.

This means he’ll probably have to work with Democrats and other lawmakers who are opposed to the legislation, which he says he’s willing to do.

Many citizens and taxpayers do believe Big Tech has gotten a little out of control, and most might support some sort of limiting legislation. But battling such giant companies is never an easy task.
