What’s Happening:

It’s not often we see swing states making moves that protect Americans’ rights.

Liberals often have too much sway in these states. And the “Republicans” who influence the government are usually too weak to push for conservative values.

Meanwhile, the left runs free, rolling back our rights while inventing new ones that conveniently benefit their special interests.

But in this one state, conservatives just got a big win.

From The Gazette:

Gov. Kim Reynolds signed into law Friday a contentious measure eliminating a requirement that Iowans obtain a permit to acquire or carry handguns and loosening other state restrictions…

The bill enacts a longtime wish of gun rights activists, with Iowa now joining 18 states that have similar “constitutional carry” provisions that advocates say will enhance individual rights while removing what sponsor Rep. Steve Holt, R-Denison, called a requirement they first get a “permission slip from the government.”

Iowa just signed into law a bill that eliminates a permit to both acquire or carry handguns.

At the same time, the law will prevent firearm sales to criminals and other dangerous individuals. It even gives power to law enforcement to intervene when mentally ill individuals try to acquire a gun.

This appears to be a big win for Second Amendment advocates. Iowa residents won’t have to get permission from the state to exercise their constitutional rights.

But this should be a win for gun control advocates as well. After all, the law doesn’t make it easier for actual criminals to get guns (you know, those people more likely to commit a violent crime).

And law enforcement will have a way to prevent people who might harm themselves or others from getting a gun.

Isn’t that the goal of gun control—protecting Americans? Or are gun control activists really after something else?

You see, if your real goal is to prevent law-abiding citizens from getting guns, then you’d be pretty upset about this new law.

You’d be hopping mad, if your real intention was to outlaw private gun ownership entirely, so that Americans are dependent on the government to take care of them. Effectively creating a socialist police state.

But that’s not the goal of gun control advocates, is it?

Key Takeaways:

  • Iowa passed a law banning carry permits for gun owners.
  • Residents will not have to acquire permission from state to own a firearm.
  • The law also prevents criminals and the mentally ill from accessing guns.
