The issue of “court packing” continues to be a top priority for both Democrats and Republicans. And in the end, it could have a tremendous impact on our government and judicial system.

President Joe Biden has ordered a commission to study the possibility of expanding the number of Supreme Court justices. This 36-member group would also analyze other “potential reforms.”

But 6 Republicans are racing to stop it, “before it’s too late.”

The GOP members are taking this fight extremely seriously, as they seek to tackle the perceived court-packing ploy by leftist politicians.

The Republicans leading the charge are: Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Wisc.), Rep. Chris Jacobs (R-NY), Ken Buck (R-CO), Mo Brooks (R-AL), Ted Budd (R-NC), and Markwayne Mullin (R-OK).

They’re hoping to introduce a big change that will protect the Supreme Court now, and for generations to come.

From Fox News:

A group of six House Republicans Tuesday will introduce a constitutional amendment aimed at setting the number of Supreme Court justices at nine in a reaction to calls from Democrats to pack the court and a commission ordered by President Biden to study the topic.

On the surface, Biden’s commission doesn’t appear to be immediately threatening.

They want to examine “the length of service and turnover of justices on the Court,” as well as “the Court’s case selection, rules, and practices.”

In theory, that seems reasonable. But Republicans aren’t buying it — they believe it’s simply a disguise for a politically-charged effort to change the Supreme Court.

And the GOP claims those changes would dramatically benefit Democrats.

On top of that, Republicans say the commission is in fact “a direct assault on our nation’s independent judiciary.” And this new amendment would stop the leftist push in its tracks.

It would keep the Court at nine justices, for one thing. And also, as Rep. Gallagher stated:

We don’t need a commission to know court packing is a radical idea that would undermine confidence in one of our country’s most important — and trusted — institutions.

The Supreme Court has been comprised of nine justices for more than 150 years, and it’s time we amend the Constitution to make this longstanding precedent permanent before it’s too late.

Gallagher added that these days, “the fringiest of fringy proposals on the radical left is now increasingly mainstream.”

He finished by saying the entire idea is “dangerous” and “would further tear the country apart.”

Back when President Roosevelt tried to pack the court, it was was widely criticized, and eventually abandoned after they ruled in favor of his New Deal programs.

Strangely, it appears the current President has changed his tune on the concept.

In 1983, when Biden was a Senator, he called court-packing a “bonehead idea.” These days, however, it appears he has no problem at least considering the possibility.

That’s why Republicans want this new constitutional amendment to go through ASAP.

If Democrats do succeed in managing to pack the court, it will add another layer of power that Republicans may find extremely difficult to overcome in the future.

Key Takeaways:

  • 6 Republicans will introduce a new constitutional amendment, aimed at stopping Biden’s commission.
  • The GOP believes it’s just a plot to pack the Supreme Court and give more power to Democrats.
  • Rep. Gallagher calls it a “radical idea” and one that “would further tear the country apart.”
