When 10 Republicans voted to impeach the President of the United States, the GOP reacted swiftly. Many right-wing politicians publicly chastised their colleagues for turning on POTUS.
House Republicans claim those who opted to remove Trump also turned against the voters, too. So now they’re looking to punish some of the more vocal anti-Trump GOPers.
And House GOP Conference Chair Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) is atop the list.
She was one of the first to announce her impeachment vote, claiming the President incited the mob that attacked government buildings and officials during a recent protest.
Since then, her GOP peers have called her out, and many actually want her stripped of power. The number that supports Cheney’s removal is growing, too:

House conservatives have received a commitment from 115 members to back their effort to oust House GOP Conference Chair Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) from her leadership position in the wake of voting in favor of impeaching President Trump for inciting a riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6, a senior GOP aide told The Hill on Tuesday.
They’re circulating a petition that would force a special conference meeting, where they hope a vote will be held. If it happens, Cheney’s fate will be decided by Republicans casting secret ballots.
Cheney’s critics specifically cite her timing — they say she didn’t wait long enough to compile the necessary evidence, nor did she consult with her colleagues.
Rep. Cheney did not consult with the rest of our conference before supporting impeachment.
She failed to abide by the spirit of the Conference rules & is ignoring the preferences of Republican voters.
I’m calling on her to step down as Conference Chair.
Cheney wasn’t alone in her vote, however, as a total of 10 House Republicans voted in favor of impeachment.
Cheney claims hers was a “vote of conscience,” but now she has to realize the facts: her peers have acquired enough backing to force that meeting, so a vote on her political future could be inevitable.
On top of that, other anti-Trump politicians on Capitol Hill may face similar hurdles.
But in the end, when you go against your party on important issues, you have to anticipate some serious conflict.
