The Department of Justice has raided former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s apartment in Manhattan and seized electronic devices.
The search warrant was executed on Wednesday as authorities increase their scrutiny of Giuliani’s dealings in Ukraine, The New York Times reported.
Federal investigators in Manhattan executed a search warrant on Wednesday at the Upper East Side apartment of Rudolph W. Giuliani, the former New York City mayor who became President Donald J. Trump’s personal lawyer, stepping up a criminal investigation into Mr. Giuliani’s dealings in Ukraine, three people with knowledge of the matter said.
One of the people said the investigators had seized Mr. Giuliani’s electronic devices.
Executing a search warrant is an extraordinary move for prosecutors to take against a lawyer, let alone a lawyer for a former president, and it marks a major turning point in the long-running investigation into Mr. Giuliani.
The federal authorities have been largely focused on whether Mr. Giuliani illegally lobbied the Trump administration in 2019 on behalf of Ukrainian officials and oligarchs, who at the same time were helping Mr. Giuliani search for dirt on Mr. Trump’s political rivals, including President Biden, who was then a leading candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination.
The warrant itself does not mean that any wrongdoing occurred but in order to obtain the search warrant authorities had to convince a judge that there was sufficient evidence that a crime was committed.
The search warrant had been sought by the United States Attorney’s office in Manhattan and the FBI but the Justice Department of Donald Trump blocked the efforts.
But when Attorney General Merrick Garland was sworn in the Justice Department lifted its objections to the warrant.
At the introduction of Garland, Biden promised that the Justice Department would be independent on not work for him.
“We need to restore the honor, the integrity, the independence of the DOJ of this nation that has been so badly damaged,” Biden said.
“I want to be clear to those who lead this department who you will serve: You won’t work for me. You are not the president’s or the vice president’s lawyer. Your loyalty is not to me,” he said. “It’s to the law, the Constitution, the people of this nation.”
In January it was reported that Trump and Giuliani were among those who were facing possible investigations.
Washington, D.C., Attorney General Karl Racine said that the president, along with his son Donald Trump Jr. and his attorney and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani could face a criminal investigation because of the riot that took place in Washington, D.C., The Daily Wire reported.
“I think the question is, how far up does it go? Clearly, the Capitol was ground central in all of this mob’s behavior,” he said on “Good Morning America.”
“Donald Trump Jr., Rudy Giuliani, even the President of the United States, were calling on their supporters and hate groups to go to the Capitol and, in Rudy Giuliani’s words, ‘exercise combat justice,’” he said.
“We’re going to investigate not only those mobsters, but also those who incited the violence,” he said.
His comments came after the Department of Justice said that it was possible that the president could be charged with a crime related to the riot.
“We are looking at all actors here,” U.S. attorney Michael Sherwin said on Thursday. “Was there a command and control? Were there others that maybe assisted or facilitated or obviously played some ancillary role in this? Anyone that had a role, and the evidence fits the elements of a crime, they’re going to be charged.”
“I’d like to begin by addressing the heinous attack on the United States Capitol,” Trump said. “Like all Americans, I am outraged by the violence, lawlessness, and mayhem. I immediately deployed the national guard and federal law enforcement to secure the building and expel the intruders. America is and must always be a nation of law and order. The demonstrators who infiltrated the Capitol have defiled the seat of American democracy. To those who engaged in the acts of violence and destruction, you do not represent our country, and to those who broke the law, you will pay.”
“We have just been through an intense election, and emotions are high,” the president said. “But now tempers must be cooled and calm restored. We must get on with the business of America. My campaign vigorously pursued every legal avenue to contest the election results. My only goal was to ensure the integrity of the vote. In so doing, I was fighting to defend American democracy. I continue to strongly believe that we must reform our election laws to verify the identity and eligibility of all voters and to ensure faith and confidence in all future elections. Now, Congress has certified the results. A new administration will be inaugurated on January 20; my focus now turns to ensure a smooth, orderly, and seamless transition of power. This moment calls for healing and reconciliation.”

It takes a lot to shift the number of seats a state has in the House. And California, the country’s most populous state, had to lose many residents to offset people moving in and see an overall drop.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise to regular readers. People have been fleeing CA for years now to states like Texas, Florida, and Arizona.
During the 2020 crisis, those numbers only increased, as Americans got sick and tired of Gov. Newsom’s abusive lockdowns. Now he’s being recalled.
And itt looks like Pelosi’s majority in the House is all but certain to disappear soon, after conservative state legislatures redraw districts in 2021.
The 2022 election will be even more important, with red states getting a critical chance to retake Congress and undo some of the damage Biden has done.
