President-elect Donald Trump bragged Thursday that his incoming Cabinet has “by far the highest IQ of any Cabinet ever assembled.”
Trump was speaking at a Congressional leadership luncheon held inside his Trump International Hotel, located on Pennsylvania along the route his inaugural parade will travel Friday afternoon. Press was allowed inside the luncheon for a portion of Trump’s remarks, at least the beginning of which were dedicated to thanking Congressional leaders and praising his incoming team.
The president-elect offered shout-outs to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Attorney General-designate Jeff Sessions, House Republican Conference Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers and United Nations Ambassador-designate Nikki Haley.
Trump saved special praise for Health and Human Services Secretary-designate Tom Price, who was the subject of several pointed questions from Democratic senators during his confirmation hearing.
“They were so nice to Tom, right? Where’s Tom? This guy’s become a star. Where is Tom? Man, were they nice to you. It is a lovely group of people, Tom,” Trump said. “They wanted to end his career so fast. And then they found out, man, he’s smart. We have a lot of smart people. I tell you what. One thing we’ve learned we have by far the highest IQ of any Cabinet ever assembled.”
